What are you looking at? Banans or Global Change?

Have you ever had the experience of getting interested in something, and then seeing it everywhere? Or holding a belief and being able to find indisputable proof of that belief everywhere, but somehow, coincidentally, you don’t seem to see or respect things that oppose that belief?

Welcome to one of the most leveraged and under-appreciated abilities of our mind – to find what it’s looking for!

Here are a few more examples that I find interesting.

– You’re in a bad mood and you think your friend or spouse is annoying – suddenly “proof” of this apparent “fact” just shows up.

– You’re worried about the state of the world – and then lo and behold, you start seeing more things to worry about.

– You become interested in a certain kind of car and suddenly you see it on the streets everywhere (and you’re not even a car person!)

Comedians can seem to find funny things everywhere – which means that they both see things that are funny but also CREATE something funny out of something that’s neutral.  Because their minds are looking for humor, they will do everything they can to find it, even if that means manufacturing it.

This fascinating facet of our minds is extremely powerful. It can lead us to beautiful creativity, but also to horrible destruction. It can constrict our view of the world or expand it.

This force can be used to get super specific and see the most amazing detail or see broad universal or global patterns that can only be seen by zooming out. I used to think that it was a skill or something we were born with, that some people just “see” certain things. Now I know that they have such profound understanding because they’ve spent decades “looking in that direction.” And anyone can do that. You can do that right now. You can find anything simply by looking.

That’s what we realized when we launched One Solution. If we pointed our minds towards solving global issues – over time we will start to see patterns and get in-depth knowledge and experience. And it turned out to be true. We never thought it would be that simple, that we could see so much simply by looking. And not only that, but everyone has that capacity.

So we started talking about the mind and resilience and how looking at that could solve global issues…and because we were talking about it people started talking about it with us.

If you talk about bananas, people interested in bananas will start talking with you. If you talk about global change, people will start talking about global change with you. Crazy simple. Crazy underappreciated.

What we look for is what we see.

Where we point is where people will look.

Then just go. Go towards whatever you want.

Anyone can do that. You can do that right now.

See, point, go – and the opportunities are endless.
