Going beyond #GivingTuesday

The road to $50,000

Giving Tuesday was a big success for us, as we raised $18,000 and counting in our first ever fundraiser. THANK YOU to all who contributed. We are eternally grateful for your support. But WAIT! That's not the best part. We received an incredibly generous offer by a local Chicago foundation to match us up to $50,000 if we can get there in the next 9 days. Whoa! Unlike the Gates Foundation match on Facebook, this match is GUARANTEED for One Solution! That means we've got to raise $32,000 in the next 9 days . We are hustling with all we've got and we need your help to get to the end zone as quickly as possible.

Please consider donating whatever you can below. Or reach out if you know an individual or foundation that might contribute. We are happy to do calls, meetings, tap-dance routines, singing telegrams, or whatever else is required to begin a conversation about why a contribution to One Solution is a contribution to stopping our world problems at the source. We are on a mission to change people's minds which will truly and sustainably change the world.

Why Contribute?

The most immediate reason is because people are needlessly dying and in Chicago and the Middle East, the work that we're doing is helping to stop that. Just this past Wednesday when we saw our teen interns, the Rebels for Peace, we told them about the money we'd raised in the fundraiser and excitedly discussed how we could use the money to bring peace to Chicago faster. Only a few moments after that inspired discussion, they found out one of their friends had been shot and was in critical condition at the hospital.

Literally, these kids encounter gun violence on a weekly basis. When we asked them to be honest and tell us if being part of the Rebels for Peace was really changing their lives they got quiet and all said: "Yes. Definitely. I'm not as angry. I'm not fighting as much as I used to be. And when my uncle or my homie calls me up and says we gotta go roll up on someone (with guns), because they got one of our people, I don't go. And I tell them they need to check their head. Slow their thinking. It's not worth it."

Several of them gave specific examples within the last 2 weeks where they'd had the opportunity to talk someone close to them out of seeking revenge or getting violent. That is why the work of One Solution is worth contributing to. Because we are helping to change minds, which is changing behavior, which is stopping violence in its tracks. Now we need to reach more people. And faster.

The people behind it all

These are some of the youth you will be helping!

What are you funding?

While we've been able to accomplish some great things completely without external funding, imagine how much more we can achieve with your support! Here are just some of the things we will be able to do with your help:

CHICAGO:
(A citywide initiative to raise the level of wellbeing and resilience in residents to end violence and create new opportunities)

Your Donation will allow us to do the following in 2018:
1) Educate and train 35 more Rebels for Peace (a youth-led organization of teens rebelling against the current thinking that is fueling the violence and conflict)
2) Create a train-the-trainer program for Parents and Teacher in the Southside of Chicago. (To create real sustainability and community collaboration on all levels)
3 ) Deliver free, open to the public talks and events
4) Buy t-shirts, wristbands and other key merchandise to spread the message locally
5) Hire local interns to spread the message (Create a local media team to rewrite the story of Chicago and humanity, focusing on our innate resilience and ability to change from the inside-out).

A CURIOUS WORLD:
(An animated, language neutral series for kids teaching them about the source of their feelings and experience)

Your Donation will allow us to do the following in 2018:
1) Test the 9 storyboards and animatics with a variety of audiences (both critical steps in the pre-production process before entering the time consuming and expensive production phase). We want to know what Syrian refugees sitting on the outskirts of Beirut and in the slums of Athens make of the animation. Can the youth in war torn Sudan see any value? What do they learn from Curious and does it improve their experience of life? Why or why not? Donations will allow research teams to explore the potential of A Curious World to impact on the so called “hopeless” “failed” or “miserable” places on our planet.
2) Document everything that we find along the way. We would hire a media team to record, produce and share the impact of these projects around the world.
3) Let the kids go crazy with their creativity and tailor-make Curious to what they want and how they want to learn.

MIDDLE EAST:
(A youth-focused project designed to look beyond our differences in thinking and transcend conflict between people, countries and religions)

Your donation we will allow us to do the following in 2018:
1) Offer follow-up programs to the dozens of youth who were positively impacted by the initial training and are asking us for more.
2) Be able to say “yes” to other youth organizations that have little or no budget who want us to come and give workshops.
3) Increase the reach of our trainings at YOCOPAS (an Israeli-Palestinian-international youth-led change organization) . The youth organizers want innovative, international voices to come and speak but do not have the budget to fly trainers in and accommodate them. We could help them do that with your support.
4) Offer modest stipends to youth interns so they can receive more training and in exchange, share what they are learning in their own language with peers in their country.
